Fully Automatic Refractometer RA-600

Refractometry
When light passes from one transparent medium to another, refraction occurs at the smooth interface between the two media due to the difference in the speed of light propagation in each medium. The commonly used refractive index refers to the ratio of the speed of light in air to its speed in the sample. According to the law of refraction, the refractive index is the ratio of the sine of the angle of incidence to the sine of the angle of refraction.
The refractive index of a substance changes with temperature or the wavelength of the incident light. As the temperature of the transparent substance increases, the refractive index decreases; the shorter the wavelength of the incident light, the higher the refractive index. The refractive index is denoted as ntD, where D represents the D-line of the sodium spectrum, and t is the temperature at the time of measurement.
This method uses the D-line of the sodium spectrum (589.3 nm) to measure the refractive index of the sample relative to air. Unless otherwise specified, the sample temperature is 20°C.
